June 2008 update: I have just returned from the New Zealand Long Arm Machine Quilting Conference which was held in May, in the beautiful town of Cambridge in the North Island. I spent 10 wonderful days there, sampling the local coffee shops and cafes and visiting the amazing Waitomo caves.
Of course, the main purpose for going there was the conference , where I was able to learn more about the art of machine quilting from those who have been in the field longer than me. I also took specialist classes prior to the conference, including wholecloth quilting, threadplay and more.
The teachers were so enthusiastic and passed on their knowledge in a fun but professional way. Mike and Lori Neels of Quiltique in Cambridge organised the bi-ennial event, and what a marvellous job they did! Everyone was so welcoming and I feel I've made many friends with fellow long-armers who have their business base in New Zealand.
I am now busy thinking of ways to incorporate all the new designs and techniques into my work. Wish there were more hours in the day!
Catch you soon

About Me
Hi, my name is Shelley Pinnell. I have been a patchworker and quilter since the late 1980s and I am an accredited teacher with the Western Australian Quilters Association (WAQA). I have been teaching for the past six years but in 2006 I decided to branch out by offering a Longarm Machine Quilting service. I am married with two grown children and live in the semi-rural area of Kelmscott, south of Perth, Western Australia. Check out my online photo album to see some of my quilting work!
